Hello and a great big welcome to Cygnets' class webpage.
Week beginning 6th July 2015
A great big thank you for coming to our Sports Day and making it more special. I was very proud of all the children, as they all joined in and had lots of fun in the sun!
We jumped over hurdles!
We took turns!
We tried to throw bean bags into hoops.
Egg and spoon race!
Can you spot the eggs?
In P.E this week we have been traveling along benches in different ways and then climbing on to the P.E tables and jumping off on to a mat. We are trying hard to remember to stand tall with a straight back, then bend our knees and swing our arms to jump as far as we can go.
we tried sliding
we tried crawling
Our favourite this week has been playing with empty water bottles in the water tray. Children enjoyed watching the water squirt out of the holes in the water bottles. We had to think of ways of stopping the water from escaping. Oh yes.....some of us did get wet!
Coming up next week......
1) Teddy Bears Picnic on Tuesday.....please send in your child's favourite teddy.
2) Leavers Assembly/graduation on Wednesday morning.
Have a lovely weekend....see you all next week!
Week beginning 29th June 2015
This week our activities have been based around our book of the week, "The Rainbow Fish".
On Monday we listened to the story and watched it on YouTube too. We talked about the Rainbow Fish was beautiful, different and unique. From the story we learnt that it is very important for us to listen to our friends, be kind and share.
In the Creative Area we had a go at making our very own Rainbow Fish. We had to cut and stick different coloured scales onto an outline of the Rainbow Fish. Look at some of our beautiful Rainbow Fish.
Some of us had a go at drawing the Rainbow Fish on the Paint programme on the Interactive whiteboard. Have a look at our pictures.
Cygnet's really enjoyed playing a Rainbow Fish bingo game. The children had to look and listen carefully, take turns and try and remember which card they had picked previously and try not to pick the same one again. The first one to cover all their pictures had to shout BINGO!
Some of us had a go at making our names by matching letters onto our name cards and then we also had a go at writing our names.
We also created characters from the story using play dough. We used techniques such as rolling, tapping and pinching etc to make our characters look real. Have a look at what we made!
As we have sports day next week, we have been busy practising our races. We are finding the egg and spoon race lots of fun but tricky! A good job the eggs weren't real!!!
1) Next week we will be having sports day on Tuesday. Please come to watch and support your child between 2pm-3pm. Thank you!
2) As the weather becomes more cheerful, please ensure that you apply sun cream to your child at home, before you bring them into Nursery.
3) Please can you send in a cap/sunhat for your child.
Have a lovely weekend, enjoy the sun!
Week beginning 15 June 2015
Another very busy week at Nursery for us. We have continued learning about our water topic. This week we discussed, what we use water for. We talked about our morning routines.....this included using water for having a bath/shower, brushing our teeth, washing our hands/face and making breakfast. We concluded that we are very lucky to have water.
Children thought about their individual morning routines and sequenced pictures illustrating how they get ready for Nursery.
Some of us had a go at washing clothes. We soaked the clothes in water, srubbed them and then rinsed them with our hands. After that we hung the clothes outside to dry.
Some of us were excited to explore soapy water and a sponge. We tried making bubbles. It got a little messy.....but it was lots and lots of fun.
Outside we enjoyed playing in the ice cream parlour, buying and selling ice-creams.
Ask your child to describe their favourite ice-cream to you.
Ramadhan Mubarak to everyone who will begin fasting at the end of this week. Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy Father's day!
Week beginning 8th June 2015
We had a very exciting week at Nursery this week.....I'm sure that the children have come home and told you all about it! On Monday afternoon, we found a suitcase in our class, after lunchtime, with a tag on it , with the name Ahmed written on it.
We don't have a "Ahmed" in all of Nursery....so we decided we better open the suitcase and see if we could find any clues as to whom it belonged to so that we could return it. Inside the suitcase we found a beach towel, sunglasses, sun cream, some shorts, t-shirts, a teddy and luckily a passport!
After that Mrs Wildman saw something strange out of the Nursery window......the seaside had come to our Nursery. Our playground had been transformed!!! We were all so excited and went outside to have a look. We had beach balls, a paddling pool, deck chairs , fishing games and bubbles. It was amazing! Look at all the fun that we had.
Whilst we were playing we heard the ice cream van....the ice cream man stopped at the school office and delivered some ice lollies for us. Ms Skeffington set up a stall with the ice lollies and Ms Meade gave us all pretend 50p coins to go buy an ice lolly. The children said the ice lollies were "Yummy!"
In phonics we went over the sounds that we have learnt so far, "s" "a" and "t". Children had to sort objects into the correct hoops based on their initial sounds. They had to listen very carefully for the sounds in the object names. This was quite tricky but fun!
In the writing area we had a go at writing our own lists, to help us with packing our own suitcases to go holiday. Have a look at what we wanted to take with us.
Have you ever been to seaside with your child? Look through your old holiday photographs and ask your child what they liked on holiday.
Week beginning 1st June 2015
This week in Cygnets' we started our new topic "Why Is Water Wet?" We watched the story of Noah's Ark on the class computer. We talked about all the different animals that Noah had on his Ark.
In Maths we were putting animals onto Noah's Ark, two by two. After that we were counting how many animals there were altogether.
After that we put on our creative caps and began to build! We put on our safety helmets and jackets, mixed cement in the mixer and began to build Noah's Ark. When the Ark was complete, children chose their favourite animals and put them on in twos. Fab stuff!
This week we have been learning to read and write the "t" sound. Most of us had a go at tracing the sound....a few of us managed to write it all by ourselves. Superstars!
In group time, we sung Noah's Ark song, built our own Ark and then pretended to be animals and stood on the Ark with our friends in twos.
In the creative area we did junk modelling and made Noah's Ark out of different materials. Children had to cut, stick and join materials together. Well done!
Hot off the press....our great big whopping total for our "Tasty Toast" business...thank you so much for your generous support!
Week beginning 18th June 2015
Our class teacher is Mrs Nisa and Mrs Kaur is our Teaching Assistant. In Cygnets' our teachers aim to make our learning fun, in a stimulating environment, allowing us to achieve our full potential. No two days are the same for us and we try to learn new things every single day.
Thank you so much for making our "Tasty Toast" business a huge success this week! We raised loads of money for the poor children in Gambia.
First thing in the morning, we had to go around to all the classes and collect the toast orders. We wrote the orders onto our order forms.
Once we collected the orders, we got cracking with making the toast.......on Wednesday we buttered 119 toasts!!!
During our phonics session this week, we were learning the "a" sound. We had a go at drawing straight lines and circles in the air using ribbon. After that,we practised writing some sounds in the air with ribbon and on the floor using chalk. It was great fun!
In Cygnets' class we love to sing songs. Our favourite song is "Twinkle twinkle" at the moment. This week we sung our favourite songs and tried hard to clap a simple rhythm to them. We practised tapping the beats of the songs on different instruments. Can you do that?
During Maths this week, we have been busy sorting different coloured bears into groups. We then talked about quantities, which group had more and which had less.
This week we also did some special writing about "What would you build your house with"? Like the "Pigs" we also chose from straw, sticks and bricks.
Some us had a go at drawing "The Three Little Pigs" on the ipads. Well done!
We have had a fantastic half term.....where has the time gone? Me and Mrs Kaur are really pleased with the way all the children have settled and started to follow our class routines, thank you for all your support. We wish everyone a fantastic half term!
Over the past few weeks we have been having lots and lots of fun, whilst settling into our new class. Look at what we have been doing.............
This week we have been learning about castles. Our teacher read Jack and the beanstalk to us.
Talk to your child about the story.
Can they name the characters from the story? Retell the story together.
After the story we talked about tall and short. We looked at different sized beanstalks and tried identifying the tallest and shortest. If we were really good at this our teacher challenged us to order 3 beanstalks.
Today we had a go at painting the giant from "Jack and the Beanstalk" on the computer. Some of us used ipads to draw the tall giant and short little Jack!
We had lots of fun building castles using construction and some of us had a go at painting them too!
In the creative area today we have been busy making crowns. Once our crowns were dried, we wore them and used them in our role play castle as part of our costumes.
Today we have been talking about setting up our own business enterprise in Nursery. We had a chat about what we wanted to sell. After a vote, we decided to sell toast. Then we thought of a name for our business, we chose "Tasty Toast". Some of us designed some posters to advertise our business around school. The children came up with lots of great ideas. Well done!
Today we have been standing next to our friend and working out who is taller. Some of us were "tall" like the giant and some of us were "short" like Jack.
Stand next to child facing them, talk about who is taller, you or them? Can your child work out who is taller?
Watch this space! Next week we will be working out who the tallest member of our class is. Ask your child to guess who it might be. Have a great weekend. Lets hope we get some sun!
This week our teacher read "The Three Little Pigs" to us.
After listening to the story, we had a go at building houses ourselves........
We used bricks, we used straw and we used sticks.
To help us with our counting this week, we tried some pig Maths! We counted out sticks, bricks and straws for the pigs, to help them build their houses.
Please sing number songs with your child at home......if you need any ideas, come and see me!
In the Creative Area this week some of us have been busy sticking materials together to make houses for "The Three Little Pigs".
"The wolf can't blow the bricks down!"
"The wolf burnt his bottom down the chimney!"
Lots of us enjoyed painting "The Three Little Pigs" too.
The tallest member of our class is Kayden, he is 108 cm tall. The shortest member of our class is Gracie, she is 92 cm tall.
Talk to your children about their height. Will their height stay the same or do they think it will keep on changing?
This week we wrote a letter to Mrs Ricketts, asking her for £20 to set up our Nursery business, "Tasty Toast". Then, we learnt a song to help advertise our business to the other children across school. Some of us visited Mrs Ricketts and told her about our business idea, she was very impressed. She gave us £20 to buy the ingredients.
After that, some of us went around school with Ms Goodwin and put up our business posters.
Toast will be on sale every morning next week for 20p. Nursery children will be making it and selling it. Please send money in with your child if you would like them to have some toast too! Thankyou.
Watch this space.....Next week we will be acting out the story of "The Three Little Pigs", singing nursery rhymes and tapping rhythms, mark making and much much more! Have a great weekend!
