Please keep looking at our page to see what we have been learning and doing in Nursery. There will also be regular Talking Tips for you to do with your child. Thanks for looking!
Our Business Enterprise
We have had a fabulous time with our Milkshake Cafe. The Nursery children made chocolate or strawberry milkshakes to sell to the children and adults at Birches Green. The children have worked really hard to run the business and have enjoyed every minute of it. Look at our pictures to see our hard work! It has been a very popular cafe.
We had an exciting outdoor learning time today, as we found lots of bugs around our playground. First some of us found a big wiggly worm. Then we moved a pot and found lots of woodlice and slugs. We watched them move, the woodlice all ran away very quickly, but the slugs were very slow. Some of the boys then went decided to make their own slug by building with the bricks.
We have butterflies!
The Gosling group have been carefully looking after some caterpillars. They ate lots of food and crawled up to the top of the pot, where they build a chrysalis around themselves. They stayed in there for nearly two weeks, and over the last week have turned into beautiful butterflies. We have observed them and given them sugared water to drink as well as some fruit.
We continued with Jasper's Beanstalk this week. Some of us painted some incredible pictures, including Jasper, the beanstalk, and other things for the background. I'm sure you will agree that they are fabulous!
EAD - EUMM 30-50 \ 40-60 months
PD - MH - 30-50 \ 40-60 months
We have been reading the story of Jasper's Beanstalk this week. Jasper doesn't have much patience waiting for his bean to grow, so he digs it back up again. We have talked in class about what we need for a bean to grow; soil, water, sunlight and air. Ask your child if they remember.
We have planted our own beans and hope they will grow into a magic beanstalk. Finger's crossed!
Our topic this term is called 'I Wish I Had Wings'. This week we would like you to talk to your child about different creatures that have wings. Try to spot as many as you can, and see if you can name them. Can your child draw some of them? Bring the drawings into Nursery and we will put them on our topic display. (If you would like some paper to do this on, please ask in Nursery and we will provide you with some).
Thank you for your support
We made some fabulous Easter nests. We all helped to make our own. We broke up the chocolate and watched as it melted in the bowl. We then mixed lots of cornflakes to the melted chocolate. We used spoons to carefully put the mixture in the cake cases and then added some lovely chocolate eggs. Mmmm yummy!
Have a wonderful day from all of your children and everyone a Birches Green Infants. We discussed why we loved our Mummies or Nannies so much and this is what the Gosling group said.
I love my Mummy because...
"She does me special new meals and she does me the best giant squeezes" Riley

We painted pictures of dinosaurs and wrote a description of what they looked like. We discussed how we are all different and so were the dinosaurs. We also gave names to our dinosaurs! We are getting very clever and many of us are starting to write letter shapes in our writing.

After we found the dinosaur bones, we looked at prehistoric life and saw that people lived in caves. They often drew pictures about their lives such as their family, hunting and cooking. Some of these pictures are still around and it has shown us how people lived in those times. We used chalk in the playground to make our own cave drawings.
Wow! Look what we found in the garden...dinosaur bones!
Where did they come from? How did they get in our garden? Where are the dinosaurs now?
Looks like we will have to investigate.
This week we have been looking at numbers and copying them or writing them. We would like you to look for numbers all around you, on the door, cars, telephones, remote control, buses etc.. You could play a game of spot the number where you say a number and your child has to try to find it around them. It would be great if you could encourage your child to make marks for numbers or write the numbers they see.

We had a message from the Leprechaun this week, to say that he wanted us to find him some purple for him. We experimented to see if we could add some ingredients and colours together to make purple and look what happened...
Floating and Sinking
We chose different items from around the Nursery to see if they would float or sink in the water. We predicted what would happen before we put the objects in the water.
Last week in Nursery, we had contact from an alien who wants to know everything about earth. We looked at some different objects. We described the objects for the alien and told him what they were used for. Can you find some objects around your house and ask your child to describe them for our alien? Can you ask them to say what the objects are used for? Thank you, we look forward to hearing your child's responders.
This week we have been experimenting with colours. We have been using the test tubes and pipettes to mix yellow and red water together see what colour it makes. The children were very excited when it made orange! We worked together like scientists in a lab.
This week we had a visitor to Nursery who, as you may have been told, made lots of mess. It was Larry the Leprechaun, he was looking for red things. The children have used their imagination to fly in a spaceship to the planet Mars to find some red dust for him. We would like you to bring in lots of red pieces of paper, sweet wrappers, card or whatever you can find. We hear that he may also want yellow and orange next week, so if you could find any of those colours we would like you to bring them in too.

The Nursery Team
Welcome to 2016!
Welcome back to all of the children in Nursery. We hope you had a fabulous Christmas! We are very excited in the Goslings group because we have had some new children. They are all starting to settle and are having great fun exploring their new environment.
We had a fabulous trip to the farm, where we were able to feed some animals, hold new chicks, take part in the Nativity story, play in the Play Barn and play areas, and meet Father Christmas! The trip was enjoyed by all the children, parents and carers, and the Nursery staff. Thank you to everyone who made this a fabulous day!
This week we have been learning all about how to care for babies. We have had lots of fun, taking care of them in the Baby Clinic. We have been giving them baths too! We also made a shopping list to help Mrs Duffy get ready for the baby she is looking after this weekend. What a busy week!
This week we learnt how to wash our hands correctly to make sure there are no germs on them. We also sang a song about it!
Wash, wash, wash your hands,
Wash nasty germs away.
If you don't, you might get ill and that will spoil your day!
Why not ask your child to sing it for you!
We talked in a circle time activity about what makes us feel happy or sad!
Khadeem said "Wearing Batman." (outfit) "Not seeing my Daddy."
NY said "Sugar, in my hot chocolate." "Breaking my bike and falling over."
A'taya said "Playing with the water." "Not playing with my brothers."
Riley said "My sniffy teddy and Zinger." "Lions."
Yamu said "Playing with toys." "When my Mummy tells me off!"
Kai said "Hugs from my Mummy." "When my Mummy tells me off!"
Zakariya said "Dinosaurs." He wasn't sure what made him sad!
Kieran said "Dinosaurs." He wasn't sure what made him sad!
