Hello and welcome to Birches Green Nursery. In our Nursery, children thrive on learning through play. Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments. It is here they practise new ideas and skills, they take risks, show imagination and solve problems on their own or with others. The role that adults have is crucial. Adults provide time and space and appropriate resources.
Everyone had such fun celebrating ‘World Book Day’. We came to school dressed in our pyjamas and brought our favourite teddies and story books. During the day we spent some time enjoying our books whilst drinking hot chocolate and eating yummy biscuits in front of a log fire.
This week has been very busy, we have celebrated, Pancake day, Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year.
We celebrated Pancake day by preparing our very own pancakes. We mixed all the ingredients together then we tasted them with a sprinkle of icing sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice, mmm delicious!
Everyone had great fun on Valentines Day, the children dressed in their beautiful party clothes and showed us their fantastic moves at the disco. They also enjoyed decorating biscuits and making Valentines cards. The PTA did a fantastic job of decorating the hall and they made delicious cakes for everyone to enjoy.
Then they did lots of activities, such as writing Chinese numbers and letters, using chop sticks to pick up raisins, eating Chinese noodles, creating Chinese dragons and watching Chinese dragon dancing. π π²
This half term our topic is called ‘How many colours in a rainbow’. We have got lots of fun activities planned and the children will be learning lots about colour mixing using paint, play dough and coloured water. We will also be having a Leprechaun visit us who’s not so lucky, he’s lost his rainbow and needs the children’s help.
We did it! We helped the Leprechaun find all the colours he needed to help him return home. He was so happy with the Nursery children that he left them a yummy treat to say thank you. Well done everyone! π
Today, the children enjoyed joining in with Children in Need and raising money by dressing up in spots. We did lots of fun activities in Nursery, it was really Spotacular!
This week we have been talking all about fireworks. We shared our own experiences of fireworks and why we do or do not like them! Some of us love the bright colours and the glittery sparkles in the sky, but some of us also think that fireworks can be too loud!
The children enjoyed watching a Fireman Sam video which explained to us how to stay safe around fireworks.
Fireman Sam NEW Episodes - Safety Fireworks! π₯
The children have been challenged to create fireworks using different types of media e.g. Painting, interactive white board, IPads, sparkly material & beads and drawing. They've done an amazing job creating beautiful pictures.
